Hello! My name
is Carla!
Read more about my story & discover how Pooch About got started!
Pooch About was born out of my love for the most affectionate dog I have ever owned - my beautiful Siberian Husky, Rudy! He didn’t have the best start to life, having had several owners before the age of 11 months.
Luckily, caring comes natural to me, with nine years experience working with adults, who have complex learning and physical disabilities. But the demands of the job meant leaving my lovely Rudy at home, all alone. This made us both very sad. So we decided to do something about it.
We both loved being outdoors and active. Now we get to do this on a day-to-day basis, with all the other lovely dogs here at Pooch About.
So what’s changed
for Pooch About?
Jump forward to 2020 and the arrival of COVID-19.
More people were advised to work from home, so I suddenly had a little extra time on my hands. I knew my passion was working with dogs, so wanted to enhance my skillset and benefit my customers and their dogs even more.
So I joined Canine Clips Academy, New Milton and began my journey, training to be a City and Guilds Level 3 Dog Groomer (although I have learnt so much more on my course than posh haircuts)!
What’s important to me!
It is important that I find ways to help each dog have a positive experience while being groomed. We all spend so much time training our dogs to recall, sit and give a paw, but often grooming, an important part of their health and well being gets forgotten about and can lead to dogs becoming very anxious and fearful during their groom. This is why I try and work with the dog and owners to achieve what needs to be done in a calm way, rather than using force.
